FUTURE

FUTURE

I wish I could peer into the future

See what lies in store for me

Make my plans accordingly

By peering backwards to my past

I sometimes catch a glimpse

on the rebound

A mirror reflection

sometimes stretching

several generations

Other times an hour, a day

A month, a year, a decade even

Was that a shadow?

Or did I see an apparition?

Should I believe the latter?

Or just dismiss it

as a chance of light

and a silly mind?

I don’t know

I do know

that it is written somewhere

rather special

that we should be careful

when talking to strangers

quite simply because

men have entertained

angels without knowing

Even that, though,

increasingly feels uncertain …
