The Spirit of Autumn
On the Cotswold, Southern Britain, Autumn gazes as her sister Summer, departing, waves Adieu… calling back…
Autumn, I’ve been hard this Season,
Give the lands, the animals and birds,
The creeping things,
All that live and strive beneath the waters,
Respite…
Nature expects it of us and the People, ALL People,
need your help now.
For we cannot guarantee that our sister Winter
will be as obliging.
There is something so hauntingly beautiful in Autumn’s profile, no words spoken, but an intensity of observation as every word of Summer departing down the old Roman Road in Gloucestershire, returns to her upon the heightening gusts.
Already, leaves are falling, Autumn’s long hair caught upon the Winds giving the first turns of Autumn Leaf, her Crown, and in a short while along Straight Street, leaves will gather thickly underfoot.
The Gentle Winds of Autumn
The Grace of Summer Departing
Autumn, I’ve been hard this Season,
Give the lands, the animals and birds,
The creeping things,
All that live and strive beneath the waters,
Respite…
Nature expects it of us and the People, ALL People,
need your help now.
For we cannot guarantee that our sister Winter
will be as obliging.
The Spirit of Winter
That remains to be seen
I do as Nature instructs me
Sometimes, people make this world a very dark place
And in such times … …
I will ponder awhile, and observe
I agree, my sister Summer is correct…
I might not be so obliging.
I have used my digital artwork program to produce the leading image, suggesting a watercolour wash in the style of Mary Nicholl.
The others are from my previous work and from the Long Poem The Four Seasons (2009-2010) again, using the same program.
