When a Former Democracy by its Own Hand Destroys Itself, it is a Fearful Thing to Observe

I

It is frightening to watch the United States of America destroy itself. That is what it is doing.

They have elected a man to the highest office - a convicted felon - and as each day passes in 2026 it becomes mental incapacity takes an increasingly tragic and vicelike grip.

The American Constitution is able to deal with this. The Constitution requires Congress to act

Neither Congress nor the Senate have any desire to act.

Just this week, a corrupt and vile man in his s0-called capacity as commaner-in-chief attempts to revert the US Navy Carriers to the design and cabilitiies that were state-of-the-art in the Second World War.

Alzheimers and Dementia are vile diseases. Frontal lobe dementia is especially severe.

Imagine the family photograph album. With age, photographs become detatched and gradually fall out. But because we always look at our albums from the most recent and work backwards, so does the weakening of the mounts for, each photograph become more apparent.

Think of the memory doing the same thing.

The family is going for a short drive to the beach. Everything’s ready.

I’m just going to get the car out Mum!

Righto. Mind the gae post, the Cresta is quite wide. It’s a squeeze.

Okay, thanks Mum.

I walk to the the Mercedes, and I’ve sobered up a little. Gosh! I think to myself. Last week Mum could recall the Vauxhall Viva. Picture that slowly falling apart album. So Mum was in the 1970s.

But the Vauxhall Cresta? Dad sold that in 1965. A whole tranche of phtographs have dropped from Mum’s memory. I mention the car… Mum’s memory scours the album for the car… ah, got it. The Cresta.

How long will this continue before my mention of the car will take Mum to the most recent photograph of the car ~ the Morris 8 box on wheels we all loved in the 1950s?

It is very sad, it is tragic. I would not wish this on anyone.

The population of the USA is between 342-349 million citizens according to this week’s Worldometer. Most Americans will be very aware of the increasing mental incapacity of the 47th president of the USA. They are 63 days away from the midterms.

Why do these people dither?

Why do these people not invoke the 25th amendment? They put not only themselves at risk, but the whole world at risk!

The people cannot rise up and remove their president – God forbid! For that would be a revolution and just one step away from Civil War.

All they have to do is to put pressure upon every member of the United States Congress and also every senator, for Congress to invoke the 25th amendment.

It is too sweping a statement to say that every politician in both Congress and Senate looks to protect careers, personal and private embellishments they enjoy because of their office.

A senator dies and a president appoints the deceased’s sister to step into the senatorial shoes of her deaceased brother. Without qualification, without any comprehension of either national politics or the Geopolitical situation, the lady is sworn in. Then the sneator appears before a committee… what followed was all that the world at large needed to see.

It is like looking at the collapse of the Roman Empire.

The mainstream media refuses to write articles, to expose the total corruption of the federal government from the top down, and to do everything possible to work together to see the swift banishment of the most evil United States president from office in that country’s 250 year history.

That is a vert short history. Civilisations around the world quietly note from afar this collapse. Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand quietly rebuild and restructure. The writing is on the wall. The United States of America as we knew it has ended. Its ramshackle government is a fascist state.

Even when the electorate has removed that man and his gang - no different to Hitler and his gang in 1945 - the rest of the world, including NATO will have moved on.

Leaders who get too big for their boots become bullies. They look after their self-interests. They mock the great institutions. Margaret Thatcher went too far. On the international stage ‘the lady was not for turning’, but the lady also held in absolute contempt the Commonwealth of Nations, the European Union and the United Nations. In the end, her cabinet rebelled, and Parliament rejected her mandate and ejected her from office.

Retrurning to Trump, in Europe, we look on with disbelief.

NATO needs to be rid of the United States of America. The USA has, for 80 years, used this institution of NATO to hold control over every NATO member state. In short, a de facto American empire. There is no good that can come out of America. Those days have gone.

Canada is America's closest ally. Yet it is treated as if it is an infant. Canada is also the United Kingdom's closest ally. Here is the difference. On 3 September 1939 when Great Britain declared war on Nazi Germany, Canada stood with Britain on that same day. The Royal Canadian Air Force became part of the offensive operations of the Royal Air Force. The logbooks of my parents brothers who are both killed in action over Germany in the second world war, RCAF logbooks. One of them was seconded to the RCAF as a Pathfinder.

I look at the timeline of American history fighting wars in Korea and Vietnam, the first and second Iraq wars, and the war in Afghanistan and what do I find? Always, Canada is there as America's principal ally.

When the twin towers came down, Canada opened its borders to American refugees. All of this is forgotten. Now we have the most devilish spectacle of Trump, by executive order, declaring that with immediate effect Lake Ontario will henceforth be Lake America. Really? It will not be recognised by anyone around the world. Even though it might appear in American publications temporarily – government publications – the moment the 48th president takes office, that infamous executive order will be reversed. When people with closed minds believe that everybody else has the same mindset both nationally and internationally, then they are on a very vicious course.

Canada has moved very closely to the European Union. It is formal and by treaty. Canada is a middle power, as to is the United Kingdom. Historically, there has always been great play upon the apparently special relationship between the United Kingdom and the USA. Yet Americans have never been able to comprehend that the relationship between the United Kingdom and Canada is even stronger. We have the same head of state. We speak the same language and we have the same values. Prime Minister Carney was also governor of the Bank of England. The Prime Minister's curriculum Vitae is impressive, indeed. All that Mr Carney has achieved in his life and thus learned to become the leader that he is becoming both nationally and internationally, is a universal away from the reality TV apprentice Trump. Two separate universes. Never the Twain shall meet.

There is a touching scene at the Davos NATO Summit in Switzerland. Members have taken a break and are talking in groups around the room, the large circular table predominant. At that table sits POTUS. Standing and leaning in to a president's ear, the Canadian Prime Minister is speaking candidly, and in a friendly manner to his neighbour. The body language of POTUS is clear. He likes what he is hearing. He is appreciative. It also gives us a measure of just how the Canadian Prime Minister and indeed all other members of NATO interact.

The note of sadness comes when one realises that for POTUS, because of his mental capacity, he must live only in the moment. Within an hour, that lovely aside will be forgotten. Here is a hint of what always takes the world by surprise. POTUS makes a policy statement on Day One and on Day Two completely reverses it. Or becomes even more outlandish in further statements, or disconnected, leaving international governments wondering what on earth is going on with the federal government of the USA? How on earth are they even functioning?

The trade war between the USA and Canada has already shown that the baton has passed from the USA to Canada and will never be returned.

The USA will never again be the power that it presumes it has every right to be in perpetuity.

The American people have never understood the preciseness of the term the English-Speaking-Peoples. The actions of this 47th presidency including the 45th presidency, Mary confirms that whilst they may speak a form of English, the American people are not part of the English-Speaking-Peoples.

That country is going into the wilderness. It will take them many years to rid themselves of that wilderness, and by then the world will have moved far, far on and left all of them behind.

I salute the hundreds of genuine independent journalists who are doing their utmost to bring that evil man down.

Even if the midterms give control of both the Senate and Congress to the Democrats, that evil man remains in office until 2028. America has to get rid of him. They have to use all the instruments of power that the constitution gives them to enable this man to be removed so swiftly, and with such ferocity that the world will never see him again. Then they must begin the process of subpoena. And they must be ruthless because thousands of people have died at the hands of that evil man and his cabinet.

I close on this very sober and distressing note. It is reported this morning, 28 August 2026, by Rachel Maddow of MS Now that yesterday ICE arrested a father and his five year old son when they were driving to a football game. They had not committed any traffic violation, there was no reason to pull them over, and yet they were arrested and taken into detention. They are now in a detention centre awaiting deportation. All of this has been outlined impeccably by James Talarico (D) who is contesting Ken Paxton (R) in the Texas Midterms in November 2026. Mr Talarico won the Democratic nomination after defeating US Representative, Jasmine Crockett.

It is the description by Mr. Talarico of how that arrest was conducted; of how the five year-old boy is handling it.

I am 73 and I grew up in the long shadow of the Second World War. I was very aware of all the bomb sites. I was aware even as a five-year-old that we had defeated a ‘monstrous tyranny’. And then something happened.

The BBC were releasing the Pathé newsreels of the Holocaust. One scene that has haunted me ever since was of a group of women of all ages early in the morning huddled together and being pushed by a single Nazi guard who wore a forage cap not a helmet. He was impatient. He was pushing the women. At the back of this group was a very young woman. She had a headscarf. She kept looking back, and kept being pushed forward into the others by that guard using the length of his rifle as if it was a plank of wood or a long baton. I remember his jack boots. Then I remember a tiny boy, probably no more than three, running behind him and trying to get to his mother who wore the head scarf. The guard kept pushing the little boy back, his body language was one of irritation. The little boy kept running round him. He gesticulated, pointing in the opposite direction, obviously telling the boy in which direction to go. But that little boy was very persistent. Very, very persistent.

I was petrified. And then I saw something even worse. I saw a whole family of women, clearly daughters, mother and grandmothers and aunts, all huddled together completely naked. I could not comprehend this naked violation of a family. They too were absolutely petrified. They were about to be executed standing on the edge of a huge pit. That was such a shock to me as a five-year-old that whenever I looked at the photographs of my two uncles in both houses of my four grandparents, and their RAF crews, who were killed with them except for one who mercifully became a prisoner of war, that horrific newsreel showed me that which I had never wished to see, and has governed my life ever since. But it also explained to me why we had all been involved in total war and that we had to win that war, come what may.

So I say to every American, and I have many American friends, get a grip and do your duty and rid yourselves of this fascist regime that you have by majority allowed to take over your country. And I say to every American, including those who still hold on to MAGA, think about ICE, think about what is being done in your country, think about what happened to people who came to watch the World Cup in your country and were denied entry.

Sort yourselves out. You no longer have the world’s respect. But I do know that there are very courageous Americans both in politics and in the Media who are doing everything they can to reverse this terrible situation that you have got yourselves into.

Let us look to the day when once again the Pentagon can be regarded with respect.

Let us look to the day when the White House has been completely gutted and cleansed and restored to its former prestige. Let us remember what this fascist has done to the American Armed Forces, and who are resisting him and his gang.

I tell myself that I was meant to see those terrible things in order that I might in time might prevent such terrible things ever happening to my family.

That has been the benchmark for my career as a police officer and then practising law for 30 years and also serving as a commissioned officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve for 17 years.

I think my mum had been out in the garden pegging the washing out. When mum came in and quickly realised what I was watching, I remember thinking. 'goodness! Mummy moves like lightning.' The television was quickly turned off and I then realised why my mum was so distressed. I was obviously in a state of shock and I remember I could not talk very well. I remember later the equally wonderful sight of seeing my dad arrive home in his constable's uniform. I remember Kim our Golden Retriever, abd I remember Carol my elder sister. I felt very protected.

And that scenario never left me and over the years I realised that I was aware of hushed voices in the kitchen when mum was making tea. My parents were clearly having a very gentle conversation. And it was gentle. After all, they had seen for themselves the horror of the Second World War. Mum had seen a house and its garden go up, the garden, momenarily in place in mid-air. Dad had looked out of his bedroom window in 1940 to see a swastika and a Messerschmitt 110 machine-gunning the roofs. In the gutter lay Grandad and Mr Goldsmith 'taking cover’.

But the effect was wider, for I detected in retrospect how my four grandparents also formed a protective ring around me. I was always asking questions. I still do! But I remember the many walks in the park, the fun, and also being shown Nature in all her glory. All the birds and the animals. And as I grew older, so mum and dad gave me more information.

I write this in order to emphasise what has happened in America in the last 24 hours with that evil organisation ICE. It has turned my stomach. I look at their track record, of the deaths - street executions - and for goodness sake, America, once and for all dispand it. You’ve created an equivalent to the Waffen SS.

I live in the British Isles and so we have the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. We are a maritime people, as indeed is America, and I know what it is like to have the life line and lifebelt thrown to me across a raging sea.
