WHAT THEY ARE

APRIL 2026

All of us read, and we often find passages or the occasional paragraph that strikes a chord.

This can be fact or fiction.

I like to keep a record of these snippetts as opposed to continuing my usual practice of writing in the margins of the book.

The library at home is small, probably about fifteen hundred titles, and my habit is not to read reference works from cover to cover ~ that presents an unacceptable challenge. Rather, I select parts of the work that catches my eye, and something will attract me, a date, a portrait, a land or sea scape, an aspect of Nature. And half an hour later as my snippett draws gently to a close, I am uplifted.

My faith in human nature is restored which, in April 2026, at the hands of the most vile man we have had to contend globally with since Hitler’s last days in his Berlin bunker. Many autocrats and dictators have followed since then, of course. Quite a few have suffered Hitler’s fate or, worse still, at the hands of their people. All occupy seats of history in every century since records began.

But this man, and coming from a country that used to be underpinned by its famous and vital written Constitution, takes a huge amount of effort by me to separate him from the overall general public of his country. This is, though, assisted by many, one in whom I especially glimpse that flame of inspiration, of fluency in langauge and thought, and who is everything that the despised old apprentice is not, and never shall be ~ Senator John Ossoff of the State of Georgia, and truly presidential.

Snippetts also arise as a result of wide-ranging research, and which is always ongoing, always enjoyable, even though the research uncovers facts we might rather not have known own about.
