Live in the Moment

March 2026

Sometimes, we stumble across a clip. This was so this morning. Although it was bracing, I’d taken my first coffee down to the garden. I like this little daily time. It reminds me of how I used to start the day in Liverpool. I lived at the top of Waterloo Warehouse with a beautiful view of the mersey and out onto the Estuary into the Irish Sea.

I didn’t have a balcony but opening the windows - sometimes quite precarious - I loved the salt air on my face. My goal? To catch sight of the Fort Perch Lighthouse. And having done so, that was the start of the day. I balanced all. Now I could make haste to catch the train to the office five miles further down in Waterloo.

Liverpool remains close to me, and I have now returned to Gloucestershire where I was born and to be closer to my family. In a way a city boy back to shire lad.

And my home has a tiny oasis, a garden created by my elder sister, and so my routine is the same. And if the weather is simply too rough to sit outside for a minute or two, then I open the french doors and sit just within, and welcome the day.

Sir Chris Hoy is an inspiration to us all. His full 59 minute documentary appears on the BBC iPlayer link below.
