Say… Would you like to go for a Flight…?
That enigmatic scene from the film
Pearl Harbor released May 2001
Daffodils are now in full bloom in the garden. Spring arrives although stormy and with exceptional rain levels. Flight, the natural preserve and habit of nature and beautifully described here, reminds me that, yes, we can do these aerial manoeuvres and to great effect.
Hours, though, is learned by means of an attached element – be it balloon, air ship, glider, fixed wing biplane, triplane or monoplane, and so on.
We too can beautifully glide silently downwards and finally sideslip to the ground. We too can rise steeply... Yet all, yes all, is a learned skill.
Without the attached element then we stay firmly ground bound. We learn from Nature and which quietly reminds me of the King's observation in the 2025 Netflix documentary entitled Harmony…
“We are A PART OF Nature not APART FROM Nature.”
I keep this in mind for mine is an aviation family including my own humble qualification as a glider pilot in 1969 at RAF South Cerney in Gloucestershire, and now stretches across three generations between 1941 - 2026 and which includes conventional and helicopter aviation. That’s quite something for the fourth generation to take up the gauntlet and accept the challenge.
