The King's State Visit to the USA

28 March 2026

Mr Cameron Thomas

Member of Parliament

Tewkesbury and Westminster, London
United Kingdom

Dear Mr Thomas,

I am glad I am able to write to you, and absolutely agree with the view expressed by Sir Ed Davey that it would be wrong for His Majesty the King and HM The Queen Consort to proceed with the proposed State Visit to the USA.

It is imperative that we, as a Constitutional Monarchy, make it clear that we fully understand the No King Protests across the entire USA.  We know why American People are so fearful of what could happen if one man is not brought to account through the institution of free and fair election through the secret ballot box.

I really do believe that the millions of Americans who are protesting “No King” will be greatly heartened by The King and Queen stepping back.

I also have a real fear that should the state visit proceed, it would be an absolute disaster for our Country and our Constitutional Monarchy.

The thought of having to see HM The King sitting in that Oval Office in one of those infamous yellow chairs is quite simply ten steps too far.

Candidly put and notwithstanding the King’s expertise in international diplomacy, if that occasion took place, His Majesty would become a “hostage to fortune” to a man who is quite simply out of control.

As of the 25 March YouGov shows an unprecedented 49 percent of the British People against a state visit. We therefore know that the percentage is likely to be higher, especially when the same YouGov poll reports only 33 percent in favour.

I do respectfully request, Sir, that you might keep in mind my comments when making your decision upon any relevant parliamentary question, please.

I held the Queen’s Commission between 1974-1991 in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. I fully support the Government. I also fully support the Liberal Democratic Party locally.

You are achieving much good work for us all within the Constituency and I’m extremely grateful to you Sir, for this.

Yours sincerely,

Kenneth
