EVIL
Today is a bad day,
A very bad day.
Nine years ago today
I moved into this apartment
Did I foresee events
as they are today?
Learn-ed I may be
But quite simply...
NO
We film summary executions
of defeated soldiers by terrorists
in Iraq
We cannot touch them
We cannot help them
We film old men
by the Taliban mutilated
... Afghanistan.
WHY?
For exercising
freedom of choice
to vote for whom
they want to govern them
We cannot touch them!
We cannot help them!!
We are subjected to
the farted blurts of
Western (UK) politicians
from Iraq Wars I and II
to all and every lens
dislike, detestation,
disgust of each other ...
as they condemn
the self-same traits
in ragged Taliban
More intent that
I was right
you were wrong
all along
with inward thinking
'we have our political careers to protect'
'and what do our stupid constituents know anyway?'
These scoundrels we cannot touch
except, ironically,
through the ballot box
Today is a bad day,
A very bad day.
Sophisticated more than
history can record,
the most banal and evil
we have ever been
history does record
The most?
Surely not...!
Surely yes.!
Right from Wrong
Truth and Justice
Equity and Fairness
Faith and Religion ...
The truth be known
aeons apart!
Today is a bad day,
A very bad day.
Found hanging from a tree
another raped girl
Another harangue
on the rightness and propriety
of marriages arranged
Yet more hyperbole
about family honour
castes and classes
'dignity and honour'
All is emptiness,
All is emptiness ...
as it is written
in a different Age
a different Millenia
Today is a bad day,
A very bad day.
Why so? I ask again
I write this without fear,
to do thus elsewhere
is summary execution
in a public stadium
high from a crane,
the ordered crowds baying
lest they too
go headlong into
Arabia's own
Dante's Inferno ...
or worse still ...
tied ankles and wrists
upon the signal
going north
and south
and east
and west
from a standing start
each part dragged
through villages
town squares
A warning to all ...
That is why so!
Are we heading for catastrophe?
Yes
As inevitable as night follows day
But are we bringing a more immediate
retribution upon ourselves?
Yes, again
People will last millennia yet
Civilization?
That’s a jest!

A mere blip
in Time's progress
to add to their grand-blip
to their great grand-blip
in Time's previous century.
Today is a bad day,
A very bad day.
Greedy men
see democracy
in one-man rule
Turkey
Russia
China
Lebensraum their objective

Ken Webb is a writer and proofreader. His website, kennwebb.com, showcases his work as a writer, blogger and podcaster, resting on his successive careers as a police officer, progressing to a junior lawyer in succession and trusts as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives, a retired officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, and latterly, for three years, the owner and editor of two lifestyle magazines in Liverpool.
