In Conversation

Since writing this journal entry in 2019, our new Chief Conductor Domingo Hindoyan took up the baton on September 21, 2021, and I was delighted to attend his first Concert in Liverpool ~ Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 Ode to Joy.

On October 11, 2019 the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Chief Conductor, Vasily Petrenko, discussed with members of the ‘Phil’ (as we tend to be called) his role, his interpretation of music, the study of the great composers, the concept of ‘The Cycle’, and the very impressive work with young people; how giving primary school children the chance to experience classical music, and to become part of an orchestra at school, can even lead to regeneration of a whole community, lowering crime rates, and introducing a sense of fulfilment and accomplishment within that community.

This is a Conversation on many levels, and all who love the Great Works - worldwide - will understand still more, and gain much, from this conversation.

Ken Webb is a writer and proofreader. His website, kennwebb.com, showcases his work as a writer, blogger and podcaster, resting on his successive careers as a police officer, progressing to a junior lawyer in succession and trusts as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives, a retired officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, and latterly, for three years, the owner and editor of two lifestyle magazines in Liverpool.

He also just handed over a successful two year chairmanship in Gloucestershire with Cheltenham Regency Probus.

Pandemic aside, he spends his time equally between his city, Liverpool, and the county of his birth, Gloucestershire.

In this fast-paced present age, proof-reading is essential. And this skill also occasionally leads to copy-editing writers’ manuscripts for submission to publishers and also student and post graduate dissertations.
