THE NARROW ROAD

The Narrow Road

Beware the briars of literal Christianity,

Trust not to literal interpretation,

Lean more to transliteration,

Beware the fundamentalist’s charisma

in any religion.

Be not beguiled by lofty utterances.

Beware the ‘messenger’

"God has told me …”

Told you what?!

Beware the ‘prophet’

some latter-day Moses,

Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel.

Enjoy the practicality of scripture,

your backdrop two millennia,

B’rit Hadashah;

and four millennia,

the Tanakh.

Or simply so, the first Five,

Torah;

whichever takes your fancy.

See it in that light
and this gloriously in perspective

Live by His Dictum:

I see not as man sees

I look at the heart and

not at the outward appearance.

In all religions

do lurk in murk four pillars :

dogma,

doctrine,

contrivance,

falsity.

To the unwary …

falsehoods rendered true

truth as useless …

To the unwary …

those pillars do render

truth a lie …

To the wary,

Very soon within that murk

we find the ugliest sister of all,

Conspiracy Theory …

Be forewarned

and thereby forearmed!

For then

You have in your hand

That which will cause

These pillars,

as ancient as Knowledge and Life itself,

to Crack,

and to Crumble,

and then to Collapse.

Freedom our reward!

And in the language

of this violent and evil century,

conspiracy theory,

stuff a fist in its gob.

Ken Webb is a writer and proofreader. His website, kennwebb.com, showcases his work as a writer, blogger and podcaster, resting on his successive careers as a police officer, progressing to a junior lawyer in succession and trusts as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives, a retired officer with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, and latterly, for three years, the owner and editor of two lifestyle magazines in Liverpool.

He also just handed over a successful two year chairmanship in Gloucestershire with Cheltenham Regency Probus.

Pandemic aside, he spends his time equally between his city, Liverpool, and the county of his birth, Gloucestershire.

In this fast-paced present age, proof-reading is essential. And this skill also occasionally leads to copy-editing writers’ manuscripts for submission to publishers and also student and post graduate dissertations.
